Outdoor Free Play

Program Details

Outdoor Free Play is a program that allows kids to be kids. It is a time in your week to press pause on screen time, running errands, materialism, and the general hustle and bustle of family life. Children get to play in the woods without interruption or many restrictions. Your child will learn to appreciate nature, develop resiliency, and deepen their play. You can read more about the importance of getting your kids outside here

Outdoor Free Play is for children ages 18 months to 7 years. The variety of ages allows the older children to practice their nurturing and leadership skills and the younger children to have peers to guide them.

What Your Child Will Learn

Appreciation for Nature

Belfountain Conversation Area is one of the most beautiful places in Caledon. Hundreds of visitors flock to the area on nice weekends, but we will avoid the crowds by exploring the park in the morning hours. What a privilege it will be to play in and explore such a magnificent setting! Your child will experience the sound of the river, the burning of her leg muscles as she climbs a hill, the sway of the swinging bridge, the feel of cold stones in her hands, and the beauty of the sunlight shining through the leaves. She will come home energized in all the right ways.

We will be hiking along rugged terrain and playing in all kinds of weather. Your child will trip and fall, get bruises, and have cold hands and tired feet. Nature provides us with certain challenges that cannot be replicated within the comfort of our own homes. We all know that to grow and mature, we need to be stretched. Outdoor Free Play provides just the right amount of discomfort that will allow your child to blossom - and I guarantee that they will be having too much fun to complain!

Complex Play

Outdoor Free Play gets your child outside and away from the lure of screens and crowded playrooms. In nature, your child will be forced to use her imagination by coming up with her own games, stories, and characters. This provides a needed contrast to the highly distracting environment of the typical household or childcare centre. Playing outside with friends will enrich your child's play.
